Gaius told me that being bitten by the Questing Beast meant that the Old Religion had chosen you to die. If I was going to save you, it had to be by offering another life in return, to restore the balance.

I went to the Isle of the Blessed and found the sorceress Nimueh there. She gave me the Cup Of Life, and told me that if you were to drink water from it, someone else would die so that you could live. I promised her that I would freely give my life so that yours would be spared. I took the Cup back to Camelot, and you started to recover after you drank from it.

Then my mother came to Camelot. She was dying. Nimueh [or that fucking dragon who knows] took her life instead of mine. Then I learnt that Gaius had gone to the Isle of the Blessed, to give his life to spare ours.

I followed him there. Nimueh asked me to join her, but I refused. We fought, and I killed her. The balance of life and death was restored by that.

That's what happened.

[Sorry Arthur needs a long time to process all of the crap you get up to when he's not looking. WHICH IS APPARENTLY A LOT]

Then why is Morgana here with a deal to save my life from that bite?

She doesn't know anything that's happened in the past three years. [EXPLAIN THIS DAMNIT]

[He's coming as fast as he can, without seeming obvious or agitated about anything but that's probably failing. Arthur knocked politely before letting himself in.]

"Charles?"

[That's alright, Charles has the class not to totally call you out on being freaked by what's going on, although he certainly understands why this would be unsettling.

And of course, he still manages to look concerned for him, because again. Unsettling.]

"Arthur." [He turned to face the door more properly and came a little closer towards him so that they weren't projecting across the room at each other.] "I saw you'd spoken to our latest... arrival. Are you alright?"

[Do you understand, Charles? Do you have a sister that you just found out about because she tried to steal your birthright and kill all of your people?

You're also a creepy stalker. But it's too late to realize that he should have made that conversation private.]

"She's my half sister. And she has no idea."

[No, he just has future students who have taken pleasure in telling him how he's going to die. The Barge sucks.]

"About anything?"

[Look, Merlin does the same shit to him too. Stupid idiot.

Arthur shook his head lightly, and started to pace a little.]

"I can't tell her."

"Probably a smart idea." [Also an incredibly difficult thing to put yourself through, but.] "She's a warden?"

[He'd spoken to her, but only briefly before Arthur had asked to speak with him, so he didn't have all the details, but it seemed like the thing to assume.]

"She made a deal to save my life." [His mind is blown because of this.]

"You two used to be close." [What happened there, bro. :|]

If you're talking sparring with swords, I'll need a minute to get my hand on decent equipment, but I'd be up for doing something.

I have an extra sword if you wish.

"We drifted apart. I had other pressing concerns and then I returned home from a mission and she and Morguase had taken over Camelot. Morgana had herself crowned queen. I have no idea how long she was planning it."
