[Spammish because he's standing outside your room, staring at that door like it killed his father. But it could just be a door and he wants definite proof.]

[Arthur roughly pulled his arm out of Merlin's grasp, whirling around to yell at the manservant for interrupting, for putting himself in between something he didn't understand, and that seemed to be the moment that Morgana chose to bolt. So Merlin got pushed out of the way instead as Arthur moved to chase her.]

"Morgana!"

[Merlin stumbled away, his back jarring against the wall, but he recovered quickly. With only the smallest glance to Morgana - enough to know that she was too busy trying to escape to pay much attention to anything he was doing - he looked down at one of Arthur's boots. His eyes flashed, pinning Arthur's heel to the floor to throw him off balance when he tried to take a step.]

[She heard Arthur shout after her as she stumbled into the hall, catching up her skirts in one hand. The dresses she'd worn at court - the ones she'd been wearing since coming here - weren't remotely made for running. She couldn't outrace him, she didn't know who to turn to--

But she didn't hear him running after her, either. At the end of the hall, before darting down the stairs, Morgana turned to see Arthur paused outside her room. Her heart was hammering, but she still shouted at him.]

Have a change of heart, brother?

[Arthur stumbled when he tried to take a step, his arms doing the cartwheel thing to keep him from hitting the floor, and yeah, he looked absolutely ridiculous because of that. But he managed to keep from falling at an awkward angle and breaking something.

When he righted himself, he didn't try to move again, sure that his boot was stuck to the floor now. And if this was Merlin's doing, maybe he'd cut him down instead.]

"I will run you through if I ever see you again, Morgana. Have no doubt of that."

[Merlin watched her go, then rounded on Arthur, finally releasing the grip on his boot.]

No, you won't, Arthur. Not here.

[Morgana believed him. She was too vulnerable here, with no weapon, no magic, no friends. The same as Camelot when she'd run. Why did he always, always win?

She didn't wait to see what Merlin had to say or why Arthur had stopped; it was a blessing that he had, she didn't much care why. So she turned away and fled down the stairs. It was a relief not to hide all the hatred she felt for him anymore.]

"You--" [Whatever the end of that sentence was, Arthur never gave it to him. He just glared at Merlin while sticking his sword back in it's place on his belt.]

"She's a traitor to Camelot. It's nothing less than she deserves."

"And what then? You've seen what happens to people who die here."

"If she stays away, then that won't be a problem."

"Arthur, listen to yourself. The Admiral invited you here because you're better than this, and if you let your anger control you then you'll end up an Inmate alongside her."

[That is both insulting to him and the first time he's ever heard of demotion. Banishment is simpler.]

"... that happens." [Name your sources.]

"I've seen it. Not in anyone who's here at the moment, but - there was a woman, Persephone, who was demoted even after she'd graduated an inmate herself. It happens." 'Woman' is not really the term but he doesn't feel like explaining how many pantheons have been represented on the Barge so far.

"I cannot simply ignore the things she's done to Camelot, to my father." To his own pride and feelings for the continuous lies.

"I know, Arthur. But simply killing her whenever you set eyes on her won't help anything. All it will do is tell her that everything she's ever hated about you and your father is real."

"I have no interest in making peace with her, Merlin." And that was his wounded pride talking more than anything. She'd duped him, again and it was just simpler to cut her out for good. "She will never be welcome in my presence or in Camelot again."

"I'm not saying you have to make peace with her," he said, standing his ground even though the shove had aggravated his cracked ribs and all he wanted to do was crawl away and hide. It hurt to stand up straight. "But you can't let her drag you to her level either."

He didn't respond to that piece of advice for a long time, because there wasn't really much to say besides Merlin was kind of right and he didn't want to form those words in his mouth. If he never saw her here, which it couldn't be that hard to avoid her, then that was good enough for him.

"How long have you known? That this was her door."

"About five minutes longer than you have. I was coming to your cabin and I noticed it for the first time."

"And why were you coming to my quarters?"

"To make sure you were alright after port." Obviously.

"I think I survived the port better than you did." With your... enchantedness and your weird clothes.

Merlin was completely ashen-faced for a moment, but it cleared and he nodded. "Yeah. Probably." A moment passed. "Wait, did we - did you see me, during port?"

Arthur gave him a completely unamused look.

"You enchanted yourself. And touched my hair."

"Really? I don't remember that."

Yes he did. Every terrible moment of it.

Arthur didn't seem to care if he remembered it or not. He was just as offended either way.

"That, Merlin, is because you're an idiot."
